Police declares Nelson Ebohon wanted for killing his father

The Nigerian Police, Edo State Command, has declared one, Nelson Ebohon wanted for allegedly killing his father, Mr Ebohon Osatohanmwen who was murdered in cold blood in his house at No.5 Obazuwa Street, Benin-City, Edo State on January 19, 2016.

Nelson Ebohon, our reporters gathered is the eldest child and only son of his late father, Mr Ebohon Osatohanmwen. The Ebohon family were said to be living happily together until December, 2015 when Mr Ebohon Osatohanmwen revealed that he was a member of the dreaded Asigidi Confraternity (Secret Cult) and that his cult demanded that he initiates his only son, Nelson Ebohon once he is thirty years old.

It was reliably gathered that the decision of late Mr Ebohon Osatohanmwen and his Ogboni Confraternity to initiate young Nelson Ebohon was strongly resisted even by his wife, Mrs Rebecca Ebohon.

A family member of the Ebohons who spoke on the condition of anonymity said, ” Nelson Ebohon is a very good and hard working young man. He loves every member of our household especially his father and mother. But trouble started in December, 2015 after his late father, Mr Ebohon Osatohanmwen told him that he must join Asigidi Confraternity (Secret Cult) once he is thirty years old. The decision was not accepted by Nelson Ebohon and other members of our household. The issue lingers until the day Nelson Ebohon turned 30 years. He was trapped by his father, Mr Ebohon Osatohanmwen in the house as he tried to force him to get initiated into Asigidi Confraternity. Nelson Ebohon reacted negatively and injured his father who unfortunately died on the spot.”

The death of Mr Ebohon Osatohanmwen was a big surprise to members of his family as they have vowed to deal seriously with Nelson Ebohon any time they see him.

Meanwhile, every effort made by our reporters to speak with Nelson Ebohon has not been successful as he has failed to return home since the incident happened. A member of the family who also did not want his identity to be disclosed accused Nelson Ebohon of killing his father. He said the police is working very hard to arrest Nelson Ebohon so that he will face the wrath of the law.

However, the Edo State Police Command through its Public Relations Officer, ASP Samuel Ogbebor has declared that it must do everything necessary to get Nelson Ebohon prosecuted so as to serve as an example to other youths in the country.

Landlords/Landladies who are opposed to security

Police should prosecute Landlords/Landladies who are opposed to security – Ebie

A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC Ika South Local Government, Comrade Clement Ebie has reiterated his support for the effective security of lives and properties in Agbor and its environs. Comrade Ebie who is the youth leader of APC in Ika South, in an interview said without collective efforts it will be very difficult to achieve effective security.

His words, “Effective security is very important in any given society. A secured society is a progressive society. We cannot do without security; hence, it is mandatory for all Landlords/Landladies irrespective of your status to be part of any security network in your area. If there is a good synergy between vigilante members and Landlords/Landladies better results will be achieved. For us to achieve the plan of paying monthly stipends to our vigilante members, we (Landlords/ Landladies) must play effective roles in areas where we live. Any Landlord or Landlady who is not part of the security network in his or her area should be prosecuted by the police. Whoever is not part of the efforts to secure our community should be sanctioned.”

Speaking further, Comrade Ebie noted that Police Community Relations Committee, PCRC should be given the mandate to supervise the Landlords/Landladies Associations in the payment scheme to vigilante members. Credible community leaders like Evang. Paul Ebede should be part of the supervision exercise.”

He commended the efforts of the police and other security agencies in Agbor, including vigilante members, urging them to keep on with the work they are doing. He promised to continue to partner with any meaningful plan aimed at making Agbor a safe haven for all residents irrespective of class.

Comrade Clement Ebie
