The ancient road of Agbor kingdom, Obi road, which links directly to the gate of Agbor palace stretching from the ever busy Uromi junction, has been on the news in recent times following it’s gory sight which poses threat to life. The road appears to have plugged residents into difficulties, but was recently given a partial facelift by a civil society organization reputed in community development under the auspices of United Rainbow Peace Movement, (URPM).The group voluntarily cleared part of the road covered with bushes, manually. The exercise led by the Chairman of the civil group and Special Assistant to the Governor of Delta State on Security Matters Land and Waterways, Comr. Jinadu Imam, was held on Friday, August 8, 2020.It was indeed, a joyous event for the group as their initiative was applauded by concerned citizens.Speaking with newsmen in Agbor, Comr. Jinadu lamented the deplorable state of the road.He disclosed that the road which also serves as economic road in Agbor had become a sort of hideout for hoodlums terrorising residents. He also lamented that same road narrowly used by residents has been divided into parts by erosion gullies. Hence, residents, particularly female youths and aged parents lives under great threat.“The situation of the famous Obi road became a major concern to us, and as such, we the members of URPM whose membership comprises of able youths from different tribes living in Agbor and it’s environs, came together to clear the overgrown weeds as a measure to cushion the negative effect of the dilapidated road.“It is quite unfortunate that government has played deaf ears to the numerous calls for the repair of the Obi road. However, we as a body reputed in community development service would have constructed the road if we have the resources, but the little we can, is that which we have done by clearing the bushes on the road to enable residents have easy passage to their various destinations,” Comr. Jinadu added. The Secretary of the group, Comr. Sani Saidu Makarfi, on his part, urged government, both at the local and State level, to show compassion on residents of the long eroded road, positing that the local government council could mobilize her catapillas and excavator to grade the road so as to help cushion it’s negative effect on residents. He also called on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to capture the road which links the Federal road (Uromi junction) as part of their constituency project for the Agbor people. He also encourage other reputed organizations to join URPM in their solidarity movement to make Agbor a better place for all.
