National Association Of Nigerian Nurses And Midwives Honours Azikiwe Patricia, Ikebude Gladys
Monday, February 22, 2021, was a joyous day of celebration and thanksgiving unto God Almighty, as members of the National Association Of Nigerian Nurses And Midwives, Under One Unit Roof, Issele-Uku, honoured their two retired senior colleagues in appreciation of their wonderful contribution to humanity and for God granting them peaceful retirement with good health after 35 years of meritorious service to their fatherland.
The Send – Off Party, which took place at the premises of the Primary Health Care Under One Roof, now known as Health Authority, Issele-Uku, in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, witnessed prayers, praises and worship session, where the Nurses thanked and appreciated God for His mercies and loving kindness upon the retirees and all of them that are still in service.
In her welcome address, Mrs. Maria Nwachai, The Director Of Nursing Services, Aniocha North Local Government Area, welcomed invited guests and the retirees to the day’s ceremony, disclosing that she and her colleagues deem it necessary that because the two retirees, namely, Mrs. Ikebude Gladys, their former Head of Department, when they were under Primary Health Care, and Mrs. Azikiwe Patricia, the former Deputy Director Of Nursing Services, were jolly good fellows with whom they all worked together in love and oneness, they decided to put in little resources in order for them (the Nurses) “to rejoice with them, honour them and to let them know that we appreciate them”.
Continuing, She advised them to continue with their kindness, saying that Nurses are caring, so they should continue to care for everyone around them. She urged them not to relent in practicing their Nursing profession, maintaining that “A Nurse is a Nurse even at old age”, so that they will be able to contribute their quota in saving humanity from ill health and untimely death.
The Director Of Nursing Services, also Prayed for God’s grace upon them that are still in service, that they will continue to care and not compromise their services for any reason, but for God to strengthen them continually to serve humanity and save lives.
The retirees who were greatly overwhelmed with joy for the honour accorded them by the Nurses, in their speeches expressed profound gratitude to the Director Of Nursing Services Aniocha North local government area and her colleagues for the wonderful recognition and the reception party they organized for them.In a brief remark, Mrs. Ikebude Gladys, the former Head of Department, said “Indeed, I am greatly humbled to be honoured by you all today, may God honour you people, I want to use this medium to say Thank you for your encouragement throughout my service years, for your cooperation, commitment and support.
I want to still advice you, to continue to cooperate in unity, support one another, don’t be tired, above all dwell in love and forgive one another this is very important, for when you do this, I bet you God will always bless you. Again, for this surprise you people gave us, God will surely bless you all abundantly”.
In the same vein, Mrs. Azikiwe Patricia Onuwa, in a brief speech, said “I greet all of you for all that you have been doing and for what you have done today, I am so surprised I never expected this, you all are good and you will continue to be good. I urge you all to be good, to be loyal, to be humble, to be truthful, do not take what does not belong to you anywhere you are, in any health centre never you remove what does not belong to you, if you do nemesis awaits you. I am telling you the truth, be a humble Nurse, a caring Nurse, a patience Nurse and the sky will be your limit.I appreciate you all for making this occasion grand, my God will reward all of you and He will replenish your pockets.
Another thing which I will not fail to say, is that you should plan well, plan your schedules well, because if you retire and you didn’t plan you will fall into serious challenges, I mean it, plan very well for what will give you food when you retire because if you fail to do it, I am sorry for you, because it is not every time that you will be calling on your children for money, supposing they don’t have, what will you do? Then you will be on the street borrowing? God forbid that.
When you plan well, you will reap bountifully and be comfortable always, because I planned for today, God has been faithful, I thank God for His mercies. God bless you all and I Pray that the Lord will continue to lift you up”.Speaking further the Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and a Unit Leader in Ward 8 Igbodo, Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State, informed the Nurses, saying “I want to let you know that presently I am fully into Politics and I strongly believe that by the grace of God things will work out fine and when it materializes I will remember you”, she concluded.
