Complaints As Ika Drivers Increases Transport Fare

Complaints have enveloped different quarters in Agbor, headquarters of Ika South Local Government, Delta State as Bus drivers in the ancient city,on Monday, March 22 refused to load passengers enroute Agbor to Asaba/Onitsha.

The complaints of the residents is that in the face of biting hardship following poor economic situation in the country, drivers want transport fare to be increased by 100 percent.

Meanwhile, member representing Ika South Constituency at the Delta State House of Assembly and Chairman, House Committee,on Transportation, Hon Festus Chukwuyem Okoh, also known as, Chuky Dandy without hesitation mediated on the issue as he convened an all important meeting at his Ime-Obi residence with the drivers who are operating under the umbrella group known as,Ika Drivers Association. It was during the meeting, reports reached Chuky Dandy that bus drivers in Agbor have refused to load their vehicles except passengers agree to their new fare. Açcording to the drivers, the old transport fare from Agbor to Asaba/ Onitsha was #400 while the new transport fare is #800/#1000.

The lawmaker quickly dashed to the motor park at the Charles Street end of the Agbor/ Onitsha Express Road where he met with the drivers and advised them to suspend their action until the issue is properly addressed by the appropriate authorities.

While addressing the drivers and passengers as well as union leaders, Chuky Dandy called on them to key into the peace agenda of the state government.

He reminded them that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa is from Ika Federal constituency, hence, it will not be acceptable if the reports came that there is unrest in the governor’s constituency.

He assured that their complaints will be looked into as he will hold another meeting with the leadership of the drivers

I’m in politics to spread democratic dividends to the door steps of our people

– Monye Lucky Ehiwuogwu

Monye Lucky Ehiwuogwu is the Managing Director, Monaco Ventures, with interests in Security, Hospitality, Construction and Real Estate. He hails from Aliagwai Community, Agbor, headquarters of Ika South Local Government Area, Delta State. He is a successful businessman, philanthropist, revered community leader and Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Ika South Local Government Area. He was an aspirant for the State Assembly seat in Ika South Constituency in the 2019 general elections. He contested under the platform of All Progressives Congress.

In this interview with Ika Mirror at his country home at Aliagwai, Agbor, the fire brand and eloquent Monye Lucky Ehiwuogwu talked about his Foundation (Monye Lucky Ehiwuogun Foundation),why he delved into politics and his plans to better the lives of his people of Ika South Local Government if given the mandate to represent them at the Delta State House of Assembly come 2023

Enjoy reading:Good day sir, please could you introduce yourself? My name is Monye Lucky Ehiwuogwu. I am a businessman based in Abuja. I have a foundation known as, Monye Lucky Ehiwuogwu Foundation registered with Corporate Affairs Commission. The essence of the foundation is to endeagender help and succour for the less privileged, taking particular interest on the widows and orphans. I am very passionate about orphans and widows because they are among the poorest of the poor. I have been carrying out philanthropic activities for quite some time. It was my philanthropic nature that led me to join a society in the Catholic Church, known as St. Vincent De Paul. It is a non-governmental organization, the largest in the Catholic Church. It was founded by a man called St. Vincent De Paul. He founded the organization because he also had compassion for the poor and the downtrodden and that was where I drew my strength from. However, I also deemed it fit to join Rotary. I am a Rotarian and former president. I felt all these are not enough; hence, I extended my philanthropic activities to my home, Agbor and local government, Ika South so as to affect positively my people knowing fully well that we have among us the poor and downtrodden especially, widows and orphans.

How are you actualizing your vision to always assist in the welfare of the poor and downtrodden in the society?Every year, on the auspices or platform of my foundation, I always try to reach out as much as my resources can carry me to people who don’t have anybody to look up to except God. Of course, God cannot come down from Heaven to reach out to anyone, but he uses people to do His work. In the book of Matthew, Jesus Christ instructed us to show love to our brothers and sisters. Drawing from that fact as a Christian, I promised myself that I will follow the teachings of Christ by reaching out to the less privileged and downtrodden in the society.

During the yuletide season I reached out to the poor and downtrodden across Ika South Local Government through my Foundation ( Money Lucky Ehiwuogwu Foundation) as a platform so that the poor and downtrodden can also enjoy Christmas. I distributed customized rice of over 500 bags of ten kg each. I shared over 400 pieces of wrappers across all the twelve wards in Ika South. In addition, I have the intention to distribute free notebooks to the children of the less privileged in our society as soon as school resumes this January. I strongly believe that”if one reaches one” our society will be a better place. I believe in the empowerment of people. And in every position I found myself I must always empower people.

Furthermore, my company, Monaco Ventures Nigeria LTD has empowered a lot of people outside my non-governmental organization. A lot of Ika people are working in my establishment. My people should benefit from my business and philanthropic activities.

Are you going to sustain your philanthropic activities?First of all, I would love you to ask me how and why did I come into politics. I came into politics not because of rice and stew. I did not come into politics because of what I will gain from it. There is nothing that politics will give me materially that I don’t have today. I did not go into politics for material gains. I am not happy because our people have not gotten enough dividends of democracy. That was why I said to myself, I cannot fold my hands and continue to complain that things are not done right, hence, I have come to the ring to be part of the change that I yearn for. I will sustain every effort I am making today to alleviate the sufferings of our people.

How did you come about the name “Ukpe”?Today, our people call me “Ukpe” (Light). How did that name come about? God gave me gift of dreams. There is no major thing that will happen today that I will not dream about it. In 2017, I was in my dream where I was elevated to see the whole of Ika South Local Government in alter darkness. As I was pondering what the dream portend for our land, I saw light came into the town. At the time I came into politics I said my name is “Ukpe”(Light). That was how the name “Ukpe” came about. We will sustain the tempo. I believe our good people of Ika South have started having a rethink and see reasons to give their supports to people who have the capacity to attract development to their doorsteps.

What is your message to your people?2020 was a tough and turbulent year but, to the glory of Almighty God we were able to surmount them. First, I want to congratulate our good people of Ika South for the perseverance that God has given to us and we also thank Him for our lives because when Covid-19 started, we thought it was going to wipe out the human race but, God gave us grace to overcome. So, I wish our dear people of Ika South a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year as we sojourn into 2021. I strongly believe that 2021 will be a better year. If we were able to surmount 2020, there is no challenge this year that we will not be able to surmount.

Hon Caroline Agbi declares for Ika South Council Chairmanship seat

As the March 6,2021 local government elections in Delta State draw near, a Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and grassroot leader, Hon Dame(Mrs) Caroline Agbi has declared her intention to vie for the office of the executive chairman of Ika South Local Government Council.

The well groomed and accomplished health personnel made her intention known on Wednesday, December 9, before the Jude Onya PDP Local Government executive at Agbor. She said that she is in the race not to amass wealth but to better the lives of Ika South people.

Hon Dame(Mrs) Caroline Agbi is the fist Vice-Chairman, Ika South Local Government Council. She is an indigene of Oza-Nogogo (Ward 3). She pointed out that the experience she has gotten so far after serving as councillor of her Ward in 1999, former majority leader and vice-chairman makes her eminently qualified for the Ika South Local Government Council Chairmanship seat.

Her words, “I am not a novice in the leadership of Ika South Local Government Council having occupied the positions of the vice-chairman twice by election and appointed as transition committee member between 2002-2006. My periods of service both as a councillor, majority leader and vice-chairman has been very fruitful and I have not been found wanting.

As a grassroot politician and pioneer member of my great party, the PDP, I am qualified to contest for the Ika South Local Government Council Chairmanship seat. I am qualified academically.Professionally,I am a registered Nurse Midwife with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing Science, and Masters in Public Administration (Personnel Management).

The good people of Ward 3 comprising Alisimie, Oza-Nogogo and Alienor can attest to the fact that they have benefitted so much from me as a councillor. Through the assistance of my amiable leader, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, who then was the commissioner of Water Resources, I attracted a water borehole to save my people the stress of trekking long distances to fetch water from the river

My tenure also brought improved electricity supply to my constituents, rather I am always busy making contacts with those who matter in government both at the state and federal levels to positively affect my people.

I got another water borehole project from Senator Patrick Osakwe which was sited at Oza-Nogogo Secondary School. The third borehole project I attracted for Ika South Local Government was sited at Alizomor. Also with me and Okowa as commissioner for health, our community health center has never lacked.

My progressive mindset has spurred my decision to contest for the Chairmanship seat in Ika South Local Government Council,to represent my people of Ika South effectively as Council Chairman.

She added, “Without mincing words, I boldly say that I have been a committed party woman. I will continue to remain loyal to our great party, PDP and the leadership of our amiable governor who has made us very proud in Delta State. If elected, I will key into the good work and SMART agenda of our amiable governor.”

She disclosed that as member of the knighthood in the Anglican Communion and as a registered Nurse Midwife, she will not mislead the people or do things that will affect her reputation as regards her knighthood in the church or in the nursing profession.

Dame Caroline Agbi said that the good example she has learnt from “our reliable governor and his wife,is enough to prepare her for leadership.“I will forever remain thankful to God, our reliable governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa and his wife for their mentorship. They are the people I call dependable and reliable leaders because my success story in politics cannot be told without them. Thank you Okowa for always remembering Oza-Nogogo for the reason that you acknowledged the fact that it is the home of your birth.

I have learnt from Okowa and his wife how to represent the interest of the people first and not to be a selfish leader. This can be attested to in the way the governor in the past and presently, has been productive. Even as governor, my community, Oza-Nogogo and entire Deltans have benefitted a lot from his road construction and all other developmental projects.

She concluded by thanking the leadership and stakeholders of PDP who she said have always stand firm in support of Governor Okowa’s led administration and for attaining victory always in all elections and requesting for their support to be the first woman to serve as Council Chairman in Ika South Local Government Council.

She also promised not to disappoint the entire people of the local government and PDP family if given the opportunity to serve.

Responding, the PDP Chairman Ika South, Mr Jude Onya commended Hon Dame Mrs Caroline Agbi for her contributions towards the advancement of PDP in the local government. He wished her well in her bid to govern Ika South Local Government Council.
