Ezekudene frowns against police molestation, calls for caution

A popular traditional doctor in Agbor, Chief Destiny Ijiebor, popularly known as, Ezekudene has frowned at the alleged molestation and arrest of one of his boys, Abraham Nmor by police officers serving in Obiaruku Police Division. Chief Ijiebor who holds the traditional titles of Ekwueme of Ejeme Aniogor, Ezekudene of Ejeme Aniogor and Nzun Nakpundun of Ejeme Unor condemned the action of the police on Abraham, stressing that such actions are completely against fundamental human rights of every bonafide citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Speaking to newsmen on the development, Ezekudene said, ” I am a community leader who believes in peaceful coexistence, unity and progress. I was shocked to receive a call on Tuesday, August 17 that one of my boys, Abraham Nmor who earlier was in my place to take herbal medication for the ailment he is suffering from, was arrested by police officers at Obiaruku Police Division. I was told he was searched but nothing bad was found on him. Unfortunately, the police officers went ahead to arrest and detain him, stating that Abraham robbed a substance on his body that portrays him as a ritualist. He is not a ritualist. He is a small boy who is struggling to survive. I wondered why police is molesting and embarrassing an innocent citizen.

Ezekudene disclosed that he has been part of the efforts to sustain peace and development in Agbor and its environs, and that apart from being a member of Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Agbor, he has in several occasions assisted security agencies, particularly police in their works.

“If police officers have started arresting people with herbs robbed on their bodies are they saying that traditional medicine is criminal? Has government placed a ban against herbal medicine? Police should please tell us. If government has not placed a ban on herbal medicine, then the police should be called to order”, he stated.

He therefore called on the Commissioner of Police in Delta State, Hafiz Inuwa to call the Divisional Police Officer in Obiaruku, SP Florence Nzekwu and her officers to order before they will drag the reputation of the Nigerian Police to the mud.

BEDC should be sanctioned over cases of accidents from high tension cable wire

Ika Landlords/Landladies

The Ika Landlords/ Landladies Association, has called for the sanctioning of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC over cases of accidents from high tension cable wires.

The association which spoke through her president, Mr Vincent Arimokwu JP, noted that the nonchallant attitude of BEDC on issues of accidents and vandalization of transformers and electricity poles is alarming and causes for a serious concern. Arimokwu mentioned a recent case where a 19-old-girl was almost electrocuted in Boji-Boji, Owa. He disclosed that the teenager who is undergoing a serious and painful experience that has led to the amputation of one of her hands , was abandoned by BEDC after the company’s cable fell on her..

He stated that since the ugly incident occurred his association has not abandoned the electricity victim’s family as efforts are being made to save her life.

“ Ika Landlords/ Landladies Association has been at the forefront of the high tension cable wire accident that occurred in Boji-Boji, Owa last week. Unfortunately, BEDC that was supposed to take responsibility and pay the medical bills of the victim did not show any concern. If the high tension cable wires were well placed issues of electrocution will never be there. Many high tension cables in Ika Land are dangling owing to the fact that they were not well placed. If BEDC was serious, the high tension cables would have been well demarcated with sticks, if that was done there will not be issue.

“We have visited the family home of the victim and they are seriously not happy with the condition of their beloved daughter. Something urgent should be done because it requires life. Even the police was not cooperative until we made them to understand what is going on. BEDC has now agreed to pay the victim’s hospital bills. My association is not against anyone but asking that the right thing should be done”

Meanwhile, the mother of the victim and a widow, Mrs .Nkechi Ijenamaka, has cried out to government, groups and concerned individuals to come to her rescue as she has no money to attend to the medical bills of her daughter.

“I am a widow. I have no money to pay for my daughter’s hospital bills. Since the accident happened I have been borrowing money from people. I don’t want her to die. Government and members of the public should please help out.”

She thanked the President, Ika Landlords/ Landladies Association, Mr Vincent Arimokwu,JP and the entire members of the association for the role they have played thus far.

Street trading: Ika South Environmental Taskforce Goes Toughough On Defaulters

The newly appointed Environmental Sanitation Taskforce in Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 raided traders who flouts the government order prohibiting street trading in the area. The group with able-bodied young men took to the action following the refusal of the traders to obey the simple rule even after series of sensitization.

It could be recalled that the immediate past administration of the Local Government Council led by Hon. Barr. Victor Okoh, having built the Edike temporary market, made frantic effort to move the traders right into the market. However, the effort could not yeild the desired result as over forty-five percent of the traders still shade their wares along Odozi street amongst other streets while others who eventually moved to the Edike temporary market would shade their wears along the market walkways respectively.

The Taskforce Chairman who doubled as Special Assistant to the Governor of Delta State on Community Development, Comr. Friday Orubor, said the raiding exercise was part of their measure to further instill discipline on the market women who has refused to obey the government directive.

According to him, the Environmental Sanitation Taskforce team has gone round appealing to the traders to stop street trading as it not only create difficulties to road users, but also exposes them to danger.Meanwhile, Comr. Orubor lamented that few hours after the taskforce team had left the environment, the traders returned back to continue their trade on same walkways.Continuing, Comr. Orubor described the attitude of the traders as rebellious, explaining that they the traders would do them selves good by adhering to the directive.“We have enough space inside the market for the traders to do their businesses.

“The Local Government Council has also taken an extra effort in getting back stores from private owners having more than two spaces. All these, are to have the traders get sufficient space to sell their goods,” Comr. Orubor said.He used the medium to advice residents and market women to stop disposing their refuse into the drainage system and also encouraged them to keep their surroundings clean. He expressed gratitude to the working Governor of Delta State, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa for his passion towards ensuring a clean Delta State and also commended the Ika South Council boss, Hon. Sunny Tatabuzogwu, for strongly keying into the Governor’s initiative for a cleaner and better Ika South.

In another development, the LG Environment Taskforce team met with traders of Baleke market in the Boji-Boji metropolis, appealing to them to stay clear from the market premises as reconstruction work by the state government shall commence on Monday next week.He disclosed that the project would last for 3 months as assured by the contractor in charge, pointing out that their appeal was to prevent the market traders from any casualties that may arise in the process of the job.

He also enjoined them to work in partnership with the council to clear the heaps of refuse at the market.

The women who were led by the Acting Chairman of the Baleke market, Mr. Augustine, promised to convey the message to other traders of the market while also appealing that traders should be able to get their space back at the completion of the project.
