The remains of Delta State Treasurer and Chairman, Ika South Local Government Area Branch of Union of Tippers and Quarry Employees of Nigeria (UTQUEN), was on Friday August 7, 2020 committed to mother earth at his compound in Ime-Obi, Agbor.His funeral ceremony witnessed a traffic jam along the new Benin/Asaba Expressway, Agbor that lasted over 45 minutes while bringing his corpse back from mortuary.Speaking to newsmen, the Delta State Chairman of UTQUEN, Comrade Eluaka Chukwudumebi grieved over the untimely death of Okoagbor who according to him died at the age of 53 years after a brief illness.According to him, Okoagbor’s death was sudden, shocking and a great loss. His activities in the history of UTQUEN in Ika South and Delta State as a whole cannot be erased and easily forgotten. Through his representation, we have received judgments in our favour from the High Court of Justice to Industrial Court. Okoagbor’s death was a big blow.The massive turnouts of members from the state to local government levels show how important he was to us. We continue to remember him for his good deeds. He is indeed a comrade to reckon with. His legacies of sincerity and kindness live on.On behalf of Delta State UTQUEN, it is my prayer that God should continue to comfort members of his family. My message to everyone was to emulate the life style of Okoagbor who through his life on earth was never found wanting. We however take solace for the fact that our colleague, brother and friend, Okoagbor is resting in the bosom of the Lord, he added.Also responding, his counterpart chairman in Ika North East Local Government Area of UTQUEN, Comrade Wisdom Egbai who doubled as the assistant Task Force Chairman at the state level of the union stated that late Okoagbor was a good to the core. According to him, The deceased is a very honest man who stood by the truth at anytime. Assuming it’s possible for us to bribe death not take our beloved Okoagbor, we would have done it for the fact he will be greatly missed by many. His death was so sudden, but since death is inevitable and we cannot question God, we pray for the peaceful repose of his soul.On his part, the Delta State Task Force Chairman and Chairman of Ndokwa East branch of UTQUEN, Comrade Ugochukwu Otuya described Okoagbor as pillar in Delta State UTQUEN who will be missed greatly. He said they looked upon Okoagbor as a role model who everyone should emulate.In his words, Without mincing words, Delta State UTQUEN lost a great man and fighter of justice. It is my prayer that God gives his family members and those of us that he left behind, the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss . We also take solace in the words of Okoagbor that we have to match on.Continuing, Comrade Otuya said, It’s really painful losing a good man like Okoagbor. As a state Treasurer of the union, he will be remembered as the unions ATM machine whose kobo was never found missing. His sincerity is something that everyone should emulate.Further lamenting Okoagbor’s departure, his vice chairman of UTQUEN, Ika South L.G.A, Comrade Philip Ojei described him as a leader of great repute who had carried everyone along. According to him, Okoagbor as the founder of UTQUEN in Ika South fought tooth and nail with our support for the union to function as an independent body which now was a dream come true. Indeed, we have lost an icon and a pillar. Ika South UTQUEN will remain united and copy from Okoagbor’s style of leadership.The Ika South UTQUEN Secretary, Comrade Micheal Ofume said they have gathered amidst tears and heartbreaking to bid their late chairman farewell to eternity. He said the news of Okoagbor’s death a month ago shocked as many who knew him, revealing that even the member of his household were all in tears because he (Okoagbor) frequently visits.He added that members of the union take solace from his exemplary leadership.Excerpt from his biography further revealed that late Comrade Okoagbor was born on the 9th of November, 1967 to the families of late Francis Anyi of Ogbemudien Community and late Victor Izegbuwa of Ogbesiere Community, all in Ime-Obi Agbor, the headquarters of Ika South LGA. He had his primary and secondary education at Nosare Primary School and Gbenoba Grammar School Agbor where he obtained his School Leaving Certificate and O’ Level Certificate in West African Examination (WAEC) respectively.Due to his quest for independence and knowledge, Okoagbor ventured into the pharmaceutical empire between 1986 to 1988, where learnt and practiced how to sell medicines. But he later traveled to Lagos in search of greener pasture where he worked as a commercial motorcyclist. Okoagbor for the fact that he did not found life easy as he thought returned home and went into driving. As a driver, he has worked in BILWADAM and Julius Berger.In 2002, late Okoagbor became a tipper driver and was made chairman the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Ika South in 2003. Thereafter, it was in 2017, he was sworn into office as the chairman of the UTQUEN, Ika South, a position he head until his death.
