Speakers at the event which had in attendance traditional, community and religious leaders, politicians, academicians, business moguls and entertainers amongst others, eulogized the authors of the 245-page book, just as they advocated for intellectual and entrepreneurial contributions towards the growth and development of Ika land.

According to the author, Chief Ika Etumuse, the book is a compendium of Ika first Achievers in all fields of human endeavors with Dr Jim Ovia leading the pack as the first Ika Indigene to establish a bank in Nigeria, immediately followed by another banker, Mr Godwin Emefiele, the first Ika son to be appointed as Governor of Central Bank.

One hundred and twenty five Ika sons and daughters made the list of honor, including Senator (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa, the first Ika man to be elected as a Governor of a state in Nigeria and the Obi of Igbodo kingdom, HRM Ikechukwu Osedume 1, who is the first king in Ika land to be called to the prestigious Nigerian Bar as a Lawyer.

The Dein of Agbor kingdom, HRM Dr Benjamin Ikenchuku Keagborekuzi1 and the Obi of Owa, HRM Dr Emmanuel Efeizomor 11, were described in the book as men of many firsts as well as other notable giants in Ika land, who have carved niches for themselves in their chosen life endeavors, including the Chief of Defense Staff, General Lucky Irabor, Mrs Priscilla Eleje of Central Bank of Nigeria, Most Rev’d Nicholas Okoh of Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion, Nduka Obaigbena of Thisday Newspaper and Prof Linus Ajabor, were highlighted in the book.

Chief Etumuse, explained that there was the need for Ika Sons and Daughters who have set records in various fields and the very firsts from the nation to be credited with such achievements. He said the book intends to recognize and honour these persons for their great accomplishments as well as to appreciate them for their extraordinary and bold achievements in the prism of historical perspective.

The authors maintained that the unprecedented recorded feats and chains of important events had promoted the good image of Ika nation, and impacted positively on the generality of the people.Chief Etumuse equally noted that the book conveys an inspirational message on history and principles that are applicable in the lives of those who can serve as mentors to millions of younger generations on how to succeed.

These principles according to the author, are devotion to knowledge, commitment to excellence and courage to dare in areas where others fear, stressing that he had to venture into such aspects that had been neglected in Ika Nation.

He disclosed that the second edition of the book will be published in due course as there were still many great first achievers in Ika nation that are yet to be unveiled.

Chairman of the event, a Professor of Physiology, University of Benin, Professor Leonard Obika, said Chief Etumuse had contributed so much to inspiring others, particularly the people of Ika nation with the compilation of the book.

Prof Obika emphasized the need for all to cultivate the culture of reading, urging Ika Sons and Daughters to acknowledge and appreciate the book that was painstakingly put together by two of their own, saying that the book would serve as a historical fiction and for academic purposes. The Rector of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, Prof. (Mrs) Stella Chiemeke who reviewed the book, highlighted its impacts to Ika nation and the society in general, saying that the book is a clarion call for even generations unborn to strive for excellence.

She said the work chronicled Ika historical events and housed over two hundred Ika Sons and Daughters identified as first achievers in their chosen careers with forty of them dead while others are living legends that have made Ika nation proud.Prof Chiemeke pointed out that the book could be obtained in both soft and hard copies, disclosing that the compilation took the author and his team two years of field work before it was completed.

The academia who also made the list of the Ika first as the first Ika Professor of Computer Science, called on others to emulate the author in contributing to the growth and development of Ika nation, even as she pointed out that being Ika first achiever called for greater responsibility. The Obi of Igbodo Kingdom, HRM Barr. Ikechukwu Osedume 1, who led other special guests to unveil the book, said the journey by the author in building one of Ika ethnic nationality’s most iconic enterprise is an encouragement to other citizens.

Obi Osedume stated that the book is expected to preserve the history, heritage, culture and tradition of Ika people given the fact that many of Ika origin don’t know their root, culture and tradition. He maintained that the book would help to educate, inspire and motivate others to advance the interest of Ika Nation.

The Igbodo monarch explained that the author who incidentally is one of his subjects, had always impressed him by his many feats especially with the publication of the book, despite the daunting challenges that the team might had encountered during field work.He added that Chief Ika Etumuse possesses many qualities worthy of emulation.

Others who spoke, including the President, Prime League of Nigeria, Mr Alex Onyeagwu, Chief Elder John Ehikwe, Chief Ifieoha Azikiwe and Mr Bright Ndidi, also paid glowing tributes to the author of the book for the initiative and for a good work done in chronicling the landmark records of many illustrious sons and daughters of Ika nation both living and dead. They called for greater unity in Ika land and for peace and sustainable development.

Delta State Traditional Rulers Council Secretariat, Asaba Commissioned

Sokoto State Governor, Rt. Hon. Aminu Tambuwal, has called for amendment of the Nigerian Constitution to create roles for traditional rulers in the country.Tambuwal made the call on Wednesday, 24th March, 2021, while inaugurating the Delta State Traditional Rulers‘ Council Secretariat in Asaba, the state capital.

He said that in view of the role traditional rulers played in the administration of communities, it has become expedient that a constitutional amendment be made to create a role for them. The governor stated that Northern Governors’ Forum had already resolved to push for the amendment of the Constitution in that regard and urged their Southern counterparts to support the move.He described Governor of Delta State, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, as “an amiable, reliable and performing governor” and commended him for his contributions in the growth of the state and prayed God to preserve and keep him for greater service to the nation.

“I am overwhelmed by what I have seen here in this magnificent building that will accommodate the traditional rulers in this state.“Three years ago, Governor Okowa invited me here for the graduation and presentation of starter-packs for the state youth empowerment programme.

“In March, last year I was also here to inaugurate the Mariam Babangida Road and the Ogwashi-Uku-Ubulu-Uno Road, and coming here again today to inaugurate the traditional rulers’ council secretariat is the icing of the cake.

“When you invited then, I was still an APC Governor and I believe that it was based on our shared and common belief that we must work together for the good of all Nigerians.

“Traditional rulers are not just traditional institution but a fountain of wisdom, knowledge and experience that we drink from in the discharge of our duties as governors.“We must do everything possible to preserve the traditional institution and bring back the diminishing glory of the institution.

“We at the Northern Governor’s Forum, we have decided to support a constitutional amendment to give traditional rulers a place in the governance of this nation and we seek the support of the Southern Governors in this regard,” Tambuwal said.

Okowa, in his remarks, appreciated the traditional rulers for their regular advice and usual support to his administration and pledged the continued support of the state government to the traditional institution. He said that he was one of those who believed that traditional rulers should have a place in the governance of the nation and attributed the success of his administration to the support of the traditional institution.“I recall that I have been in this state for so many years and this place was made up of some small buildings and the terrain was quite bad, but thank God that the whole place has changed.

“I am glad that the traditional rulers made their input in the architectural design and now we can truly say we have a befitting Traditional Rulers’ Council Secretariat.“You deserve it because all we have achieved today in Delta is because of the peace that exists in your various domains and I must thank all of you sincerely.

“I believe that a large part of the success we have today in Delta is largely due to the support from traditional rulers and the more we continue to partner together, the better we can deliver dividends of democracy for our people.

“Delta traditional rulers have never criticised us publicly but they will rather send delegations to us to advice us in certain critical issues and I must thank you publicly for this,” the governor said.Commissioner for Housing, Chief Festus Ochonogor, said the project was executed to strengthen governance as a veritable tool for building a Stronger Delta.

“The traditional institution has played remarkable role in the peace and development of Delta and this gigantic traditional rulers council secretariat was built to provide the royal fathers a world-class meeting point to contribute in advancing a stronger Delta vision and also build a bridge of peace in their domains,” Ochonogor stated.

In his welcome address, Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government Area, Mr. Kelvin Ezenyili, said that the place of traditional rulers in the administration of communities could not be over-emphasised, and commended Okowa for building a befitting secretariat for traditional rulers in the state.Meanwhile, traditional rulers in the State have added two new nickname to the “Road Master”, “Ekwueme” and several other names the governor has earned over the years.

The traditional rulers nicknamed him “Security Wizard” and “University Provider” due to his security architecture and the recent upgrade of three tertiary institutions to a university status.Chairman, Delta State Traditional Rulers Council, Obi Dr. Emmanuel Efeizomor II, said traditional rulers in the state were full of joy on the succesful completion and inauguration of the secretariat. He assured of the continued support of the traditional rulers to the stronger Delta agenda of the Okowa administration.

“Today is a great day for the entire traditional rulers in Delta State; it is indeed a day we will live to remember.

“Today we are reminded that once again we are not forgotten in the scheme of things and that we can still hold our heads high amongst our colleagues,” he stated.

No doubt, this action of the then government created a huge gap that has now been filled by the proactive measures of our amiable Governor Okowa (Ekwueme, the talk and do governor).

“It is worthy of note that this effort has brought Secondary education closer to the door step of our children who cannot afford Private Schools exorbitant fees and trekking long distance to attend the few available public schools.“We will forever remain thankful to Okowa because by the construction and commissioning of Igumbor Otiku Secondary School he has continued to put smiles on our faces. Because I Follow The Things That Good Is

Calvary greetings to everyone in Jesus Christ Mighty Name, Amen.I want to teach on the message titled “Because I Follow The Things That Good Is”. The topic is taken from the book of Psalms 38:20b, which says “Because I follow the thing that good is”.

When you follow the things that are good your life will not grow mucus instead your life will be bright. You can’t find God in bad things you find God in good things, that is why the book of Acts 10:38 says that the ministry of Jesus Christ is the ministry of doing good, healing people and God was with him. So when you look at who God is, God is a God that loves what is good because God does not spoil things. He is a judge he does not ruin things, that is why the quotation in the book of Psalms 38:20-22 says “They also that render evil for good are mine adversaries, because I follow the thing that good is. Forsake me not, O Lord, O my God, be not far from me. Make haste to help me, O Lord my salvation”. God is a God that can help me and you, many Christians don’t know that when you start practicing what is good then God will fight your adversaries.

Who are your adversaries? They are enemies from your home, enemies in the street, enemies in the church, enemies in your calling, enemies in your finance, enemies in your good health, enemies that are not of God, they hate God. That is why the book of Psalms 2:1 says “Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? Verse 4 says “He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh : the Lord shall have them in derision”.David the Psalmist said ‘Be not far from me O Lord’, if you love good things God will be closer to you everyday of your life under the sun under the moon. Many people don’t practice what is good, that is why you need to read the Bible and know whom God is. The Psalmist said, ‘make haste to help me O Lord my Salvation’.

God is our Salvation, that is why once you are a child of God you will not be like Cain. Many people today, do not live the way they ought to live to please Christ Jesus. First John 3:12-13 says “Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother’s righteous. Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you”.

Once you are a man that lives a righteous life you will be at the side of Abel, you think what is good towards your brethren, that is why we have fake Pastors who wake up to criticize people that are living a righteous life, that is why you see Pastors who are wizards who are not called by God, they have the Synagogue of Satan operating, everyday they talk of money, money, money, they don’t act as good disciples to their congregation, they don’t teach the people the word of God, they are after mansion and there is no Holy Spirit in them, they are Synagogue of Satan, the church of the wicked one, which is the church of Cain. But the church of Abel, practice good things and once you are living a righteous life the world will hate you, they will give you names that is not yours, that is why the book of Matthew 11:6 says “And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me”. The calling of God does not permit you to give account to a man, Prophet Joseph Igbodo will not give his account to any Pastor or to any Bishop, Prophet or any man. I give my account to Jesus Christ because I was called by God.

When you look at the life many people are living today, they are living the life of Cain. In Genesis 4:4-7, you will see that the life of Cain was devilish, today people are after mansion, they do not preach the word of God as expected. Nobody is saying that it is wrong to build a house, but after building the house and the congregation that fellowship in it doesn’t know the word of God, it means that you don’t have any house for God. That is why today, you see people using ‘ogbanje spirit’ to operate the church, it will not work. The book of Genesis 4:4-7 says “And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the Lord had respect unto Abel and to his offering. But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell. And the Lord said unto Cain, why art thou wroth? And why is thy countenance fallen? If thou doest well, shall thou not be accepted? And if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him”.

When believers and Pastors are not doing well they talk of other people, they give other people wrong names. Cain, is not happy to see that God loved Abel more than him, Abel took the best for God while Cain, took the wrong for God, and God choose the best from the two.

A righteous man is a member of Abraham’s family, let me emphasize on it, A man who leads a righteous life, that choose good things and follow good things in his daily life is Born Again, such a man is having the character of Jesus Christ, he is a product of the Holy Spirit. But any man that is so concerned about his personal benefits and that of his children while members of his congregation are not progressing because he didn’t teach them the word of God and himself do not have the Holy Spirit, that is the Synagogue of Satan.

That is why I urge everyone to examine themselves, look at your life as an individual whether you have the character of Jesus Christ.Today many churches are filled with unbelievers, Deacons that commit fornication, Deacons that are into occultism, Deacons that are into money rituals, Deacons that carry Satan in their heart, they are the ones who seat at the front rows in the church, being involved in such vices never enhance the growth of the Church. Having a state of the arts building is not the growth of the church but when you are able to teach them properly to adhere strictly to the word of God you will win their hearts to God, the stony heart is broken, you remove and cleanse them with the word of God, the same spiritual tool which you will use to evacuate them from dry bones, having such in place means you have a Ministry.

Many Pastors today are dirty, they are fornicators, many of them are possessed with lying spirit, immoralities and drunkenness, that is the major reason why there is no growth in the church.

When you look at the book of Jude 1:11, it reads “Woe unto them! For they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balsam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core”. Many Christians today are like Cain, they are greedy after error, that is when they see wrong things and embrace it, they are like Balaam who is looking for money tasking people, bringing Cooperative, Esusu thrift contribution into the Church and borrowing money in the church, they contravene what is written in the book of Deuteronomy 28:12 which says “The Lord shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his season, and to bless all the work of thine hand, and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow”, but some Pastors are telling people to borrow. Presently, there are fake Pastors and fake believers everywhere paving way for the devil to have succeeded in bringing Esusu thrift contribution into the Church, alongside demonic fashion wares which some women and ladies wear to church exposing their nakedness.

Holy Spirit cannot dwell in a place where there is no love, where there is no truth and where the word of God is not the Foundation. Please I implore everyone to go back and have a rethink and bring the word of God to the Church.

The choir/music department is dirty, some of those who sing praises are into yahoo yahoo, they are thieves, some of them are witches and wizards. How can you use witches and wizards to preach the gospel? The witches and wizards in the church are enemies of the gospel because the Bible says ‘Suffer not the witch to live’, and I want to inform you that today people are worshipping money, there is love of money in the church, people preach money, the gospel of Jesus Christ is Salvation and not Money.

Cain, did not receive salvation because he was a greedy person, many Pastors are poor today because they are greedy, Balaam was a greedy man, Core was an enemy of righteousness, they all perished. Please let the church repent for if they don’t repent they will go to hell.It is quite unfortunate that many churches today have no miracle and signs and wonders because they have derailed from the laid down instructions of God. So let the Men of God go back to the truth and to the love of God. I enjoin everyone to give their lives completely to Jesus Christ so that your lives will bear fruit because you are called to bear fruit, according to the book of St. John 15:16 which says “Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain : that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it to you“.

This is the word of the Lord, kindly digest the message and act upon it accordingly so that you will enjoy the bountiful blessings of God. Thank you.

A Lecture Presented By Ewere Okonta

A Lecture Presented By Ewere Okonta At The Commity Of Dedicated Friends (CDF) Third Distinguish Lecture Series, Held On 28th, February 2021 Topic: Conflict Resolution Skills

Conflict is a normal part of any relationship. After all, two people cannot be expected to agree on everything, all the time. The key is not to avoid conflict but to learn how to resolve it in a healthy way.

When conflict is mismanaged, it can cause great harm to a relationship, but when handled in a respectful, positive way, it provides an opportunity to strengthen the bond between two people.Whatever the cause of disagreements and disputes, by learning these skills for conflict resolution, you can keep your personal and professional relationships strong and growing.

What causes conflict?Conflicts arises from differences, both large and small. It occurs whenever people disagree over their values, motivations, perceptions, ideas, or desires. Something these differences appear trivial, but when a conflict triggers strong feelings, a deep personal need is often at the core of the problem.

These needs can range from the need to feel safe and secure or respected and valued, to the need for greater closeness and intimacy.Think about the opposing needs of a toddler and a parent. The Child’s need is to explore, so venturing to the street meets that need. But the parent’s need is to protect the child’s safety, a need that can only be met by limiting the toddler’s exploration.

Since these needs are at odds, conflict arises. The needs of each party plays an important role in the long-term success of a relationships. Each deserves respect and consideration. In personal relationships, a lack of understanding about differing needs can result in distance, arguments, and break-ups. In the workplace, differing needs can result in broken deals, decreased profits, and lost jobs. When we recognize conflicting needs and are willing to examine them with compassion and understanding, it can lead to creative problem solving, team building, and stronger relationships.Key takeaways in conflict resolutions:

A conflict is more than just a disagreement. It is a situation in which one or both parties perceive a threat (whether or not the threat real)Conflicts continue to fester when ignored. Because conflicts involve perceived threats to our well-being and survival, they stay with us until we face and resolve them.We respond to conflicts based on our perceptions of the situation, not necessarily to an objective review of the facts. Our perceptions are influenced by our life experiences, culture, values, and beliefs.Conflicts trigger strong emotions. If you are not comfortable with your emotions or able to manage them in times of stress, you won’t be able to resolve conflict successfully.Conflicts are an opportunity for growth. When you are able to resolve conflict in a relationship, it builds trust. You can feel secure knowing your relationship can survive challenging and disagreements. How do you respond to conflict?Do you fear conflict or avoid it at all cost?If your perception of conflict comes from painful memories from early childhood or previous unhealthy relationships, you may expect all disagreements to lead to conflict as demoralizing, humiliating, or something to fear.If you are afraid of conflict, it can become a self-fulfilling prophecy. When you enter a conflict situation already feeling threatened, it’s tough to deal with the problem at hand in a healthy way.Instead, you’re more likely to either shut down or blow up in anger.Healthy and Unhealthy ways of managing and resolving conflict:Unhealthy Responses to conflict:An inability to recognize and respond to the things that matter to the other person.Explosive, angry, hurtful, and resentful reactions. The withdrawal of love, resulting in rejection, isolation, shaming and fear of abandonment. An inability to compromise or see the other person’s view.Feeling fearful or avoiding conflict; expecting a bad outcome.Healthy Responses to Conflict:The capacity to empathize with the other person’s viewpoint.Calm, non-defensive and respectful reactionsA readiness to forgive and forget, and to move past conflict without holding resentment or anger. The ability to seek compromise and avoid punishing.A belief that facing conflict head on is the best thing for both sides. The ability to successfully resolve conflict depends on your ability to:

Manage stress quickly while remaining alert and calm. By staying calm, you can accurately read verbal and nonverbal communication.

Control your emotions and behaviour. When you’re in control of your emotions, you can communicate your needs without threatening, intimidating, or punishing others

Pay attention to the feelings being expressed as well as the spoken words of others.

Conclusion:Be aware of and respect differences. By avoiding disrespectful words and actions, you can almost always resolve a problem faster and easily. We should strive always from letting disagreement generating to conflicts. Even when it results to that, we should always adopt healthy Responses to conflict resolutions.

Thank you for listening and God bless you all.
