The Delta State Chairman, National Union of Road Transportation Workers (NURTW), Comrade Chief Dennis Araro, has congratulated wife of the Delta State Governor, Dame Edith Okowa as she clocked 60 years on June 1. Araro used the medium to commend her for her generic philanthropy and care for the less privileged.
He stated that Dame Okowa’s care for the less privileged had stood her out as an outstanding humanist and a godly woman and mother.He noted that the Delta First Lady has not been distracted by the trappings of office but had chosen, at great personal inconvenience, to ease the burden of the less privileged.
He paid glowing tributes to Dame Okowa, noting that she had devoted a great part of her life and committed much of her time and other personal resources in the selfless pursuit of the total well being of the under privileged .According to him,” Dame Edith Okowa is committed to the welfare of widows and other less privileged women, inmates of correctional centres in the state as well as patients stranded in hospitals on account of inability to offset their hospital bills”.
He prayed God to replenish her stock and grant her longevity in good health for a life of all round fulfilment

Wife of the Delta State Governor, Dame Edith Okowa has urged spouses of the 25 Local Government Chairmen in the state to give full support to the administration of their husbands.Dame Okowa gave this charge when the wives of Council Chairmen paid a familiarization visit to the First Lady’s office in Government House, Asaba on Tuesday, March 23, 2021.
The governor’s wife congratulated the women on their husbands’ victory in the just concluded local government elections in the state and enjoined them to work together and contribute ideas that will be helpful to their husbands.
She encouraged the women to be role models to other women, and stop pulling down their fellow women, urging them to realise the purpose why they are there and impact on the lives of the people at the grassroot level and desist from fighting themselves.
Dame Okowa further urged them to key into her pet project- O5 Initiative, adding that so far, the project has established 15 sickle cell clinics in the state and embarked on various humanitarian outreaches.She also applauded Delta women for having more interest in politics as 17 women emerged vice-chairmen and 86 as councillors in the just concluded March 6 local government elections.
In their response, the women unanimously thanked Dame Edit Okowa for her efforts at ensuring that women at the grassroot level are always empowered through her O5 Initiative.
Speaking on behalf of the Chairpersons, wife of the Chairman, Uvwie LGA, Onoyake Rachael, extended her appreciation to Her Excellency while promising continued collaboration to ensure that women at the grassroot are fully carried along.
