Hon Caroline Agbi declares for Ika South Council Chairmanship seat

As the March 6,2021 local government elections in Delta State draw near, a Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and grassroot leader, Hon Dame(Mrs) Caroline Agbi has declared her intention to vie for the office of the executive chairman of Ika South Local Government Council.

The well groomed and accomplished health personnel made her intention known on Wednesday, December 9, before the Jude Onya PDP Local Government executive at Agbor. She said that she is in the race not to amass wealth but to better the lives of Ika South people.

Hon Dame(Mrs) Caroline Agbi is the fist Vice-Chairman, Ika South Local Government Council. She is an indigene of Oza-Nogogo (Ward 3). She pointed out that the experience she has gotten so far after serving as councillor of her Ward in 1999, former majority leader and vice-chairman makes her eminently qualified for the Ika South Local Government Council Chairmanship seat.

Her words, “I am not a novice in the leadership of Ika South Local Government Council having occupied the positions of the vice-chairman twice by election and appointed as transition committee member between 2002-2006. My periods of service both as a councillor, majority leader and vice-chairman has been very fruitful and I have not been found wanting.

As a grassroot politician and pioneer member of my great party, the PDP, I am qualified to contest for the Ika South Local Government Council Chairmanship seat. I am qualified academically.Professionally,I am a registered Nurse Midwife with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing Science, and Masters in Public Administration (Personnel Management).

The good people of Ward 3 comprising Alisimie, Oza-Nogogo and Alienor can attest to the fact that they have benefitted so much from me as a councillor. Through the assistance of my amiable leader, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, who then was the commissioner of Water Resources, I attracted a water borehole to save my people the stress of trekking long distances to fetch water from the river

My tenure also brought improved electricity supply to my constituents, rather I am always busy making contacts with those who matter in government both at the state and federal levels to positively affect my people.

I got another water borehole project from Senator Patrick Osakwe which was sited at Oza-Nogogo Secondary School. The third borehole project I attracted for Ika South Local Government was sited at Alizomor. Also with me and Okowa as commissioner for health, our community health center has never lacked.

My progressive mindset has spurred my decision to contest for the Chairmanship seat in Ika South Local Government Council,to represent my people of Ika South effectively as Council Chairman.

She added, “Without mincing words, I boldly say that I have been a committed party woman. I will continue to remain loyal to our great party, PDP and the leadership of our amiable governor who has made us very proud in Delta State. If elected, I will key into the good work and SMART agenda of our amiable governor.”

She disclosed that as member of the knighthood in the Anglican Communion and as a registered Nurse Midwife, she will not mislead the people or do things that will affect her reputation as regards her knighthood in the church or in the nursing profession.

Dame Caroline Agbi said that the good example she has learnt from “our reliable governor and his wife,is enough to prepare her for leadership.“I will forever remain thankful to God, our reliable governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa and his wife for their mentorship. They are the people I call dependable and reliable leaders because my success story in politics cannot be told without them. Thank you Okowa for always remembering Oza-Nogogo for the reason that you acknowledged the fact that it is the home of your birth.

I have learnt from Okowa and his wife how to represent the interest of the people first and not to be a selfish leader. This can be attested to in the way the governor in the past and presently, has been productive. Even as governor, my community, Oza-Nogogo and entire Deltans have benefitted a lot from his road construction and all other developmental projects.

She concluded by thanking the leadership and stakeholders of PDP who she said have always stand firm in support of Governor Okowa’s led administration and for attaining victory always in all elections and requesting for their support to be the first woman to serve as Council Chairman in Ika South Local Government Council.

She also promised not to disappoint the entire people of the local government and PDP family if given the opportunity to serve.

Responding, the PDP Chairman Ika South, Mr Jude Onya commended Hon Dame Mrs Caroline Agbi for her contributions towards the advancement of PDP in the local government. He wished her well in her bid to govern Ika South Local Government Council.
