Sir Richard Odibo, the Honourable Federal Commissioner representing Delta State in the National Population Commission led members of his entourage on a courtesy visit to the Dein’s Palace where they were received and entertained by the Agbor Royal Council of Chiefs.At the brief ceremony, Sir Odibo, intimated the chiefs and other critical stakeholders present of his mission in Agbor kingdom wherein, he informed them that the National Population Commission is not only saddled with the responsibility of census alone but, it also has the statutory powers to collect, analyze and disseminate demographic data in the country.
He added that the commission has the mandate to undertake demographic sample surveys, compile, collate and publish migration and civil registration statistics as well as monitor the country’s population policy.
In his own words “We are here to sensitize our traditional leaders and other critical stakeholders on the Enumeration Area Demarcation exercise (EAD) that the commission is embarking in the local government and to solicit for their support.
Responding, a renowned philanthropist and politician, Dr. Donald Peterson thanked the Honurable Federal Commissioner and members of his entourage for finding time to interface with the traditional leaders and other critical stakeholders in Agbor Kingdom. He assured them of the success of the exercise in Agbor kingdom.
Sir Peter Idion, the Executive Assistant to the Executive Governor of Delta State on Non Indigene Affairs, also assured them of their safety all through their stay in Agbor.
Earlier, Chief Naiyaba, who spoke on behalf of the Agbor Royal Council of Chiefs, thanked the august visitors and promised them of all the assistance needed to make their assignment easy and enjoyable in the kingdom.
Dignitaries who witnessed the ceremony include, His Royal Highness, the Obi of Ubulu Unor, Messrs. Akin Emmanuel, Anene Emmanuel, Paul Asikabor, Nkenchor James among others were on the entourage of the Honourable Federal Commissioner. Prominent chiefs from Agbor kingdom were also present, among whom were Chief Louis Osifoh, Chief Gideon Okobia, Chief Dr. Philip Okwuada, Chief Joseph Eluma, Chief Oni Wilson Agbobu, Chief Mrs Ebeye, among others.
